This study is intended to provide guidance to the information technology manager who must make platform acquisition and deployment decisions to both maximize value and minimize security risk.
One of the most common uses of a server platform is to host and deploy distributed applications over the Web. This study presents a role-based comparison of the relative security of two different platforms, based on quantitative factorssuch as numbers of security software flaws and time to patchand qualitative factorssuch as ease of configuration and default security stance.
